Five activists from civil organizations were arrested by police for staging a protest outside the Criminal Investigation Department, urging the arrest of Minister Keheliya Rambukwella over the substandard Immunoglobulin injections.
The Citizen Power Against Bribery, Corruption, and People's Organizations organized a peaceful Satyagraha in front of the Colombo CID, coinciding with reports of Minister Rambukwella's summons to provide a statement regarding the Immunoglobulin case.
According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, both the minister and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Saman Ratnayake, were scheduled to testify at the CID on the same day.
The Attorney General has instructed the CID to gather statements from former Health Minister Rambukwella for the second time regarding the substandard Immunoglobulin injections.
However, Minister Rambukwella did not appear at the CID as planned, citing attendance at the Colombo High Court and the Ministerial Subcommittee on Public Expenditure Management.
In his absence, Additional Secretary Saman Ratnayake arrived at the CID and provided a statement.
Previously, the CID had obtained statements from both the minister and the Additional Secretary regarding the incident."
