At least four paratroopers sustained injuries and were hospitalized after their parachutes failed to open properly during Independence Day rehearsals.
Two Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) paratroopers have been admitted to Colombo National Hospital while the other two troopers admitted to the Army Gospital and are undergoing medical tests, according to hospital sources.
The incident occurred during a parachute rehearsal when two parachutes collided in the sky. It was reported that the accident has occured due to a rare and unexpected change in wind direction.
Troopers became entangled during the rehearsal, resulting in two crashing onto the rooftop of the Shangri-La Hotel, while another landed on the ground.
