The family of the Police Constable, who tragically lost his life while on duty in a crash involving State Minister Sanath Nishantha, has received a cash donation of Rs. 1.5 million from the Sri Lanka Police.
Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon personally handed over the funds to the grieving family. In recognition of his service, Police Constable Anuradha Jayakody, affiliated with the Ministerial Security Division (MSD), has been posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
The fatal collision occurred around 2:00 a.m. on January 25 on the Colombo - Katunayake expressway. Following the incident, three injured individuals, including State Minister Nishantha, were swiftly taken to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital in Ragama. Unfortunately, both the lawmaker and his security officer succumbed to their injuries.
