The driver of Sanath Nishantha, who was driving the V-8 luxury jeep at the time of the accident that claimed the lives of Puttalam District Member of Parliament Sanath Nishantha and his security officer Police Constable Jayakodi, has been remanded by the Welisara Magistrate, Thusitha Dhammika, over the incident.
The Magistrate today ordered the release of the driver of the container truck on bail.
Despite the request from Kandana Police OIC Chief Inspector Gamini Senarath Hewawithana to remand the driver of the container truck, the Magistrate rejected the plea and ordered the release of the driver on a surety bond of Rs. 500,000, along with the temporary return of his driving license.
Jayantha Niroshan Dasanayake, the driver of the V-8 luxury jeep involved in the collision with the container, is currently receiving treatment at Ragama Hospital for minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 2 AM on Wednesday when the SUV carrying the State Minister collided with the rear end of a freight container truck on the Katunayake Expressway while en route to Colombo.
