Renowned music director Ilaiyaraaja's daughter and playback singer, Bhavatharini, succumbed to liver cancer on Thursday (January 25) in Sri Lanka.
Aged 47, she had been receiving treatment for the past six months. Bhavatharini, known for her contributions to Tamil cinema, won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song 'Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu' from the film 'Bharathi.'
She died after undergoing treatment in Sri Lanka and her body will be brought to Chennai on January 26 for the final rites.
Bhavatharini, a playback singer and music composer, was the daughter of Ilaiyaraaja and sister to Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. She debuted as a singer with 'Raasaiya' and lent her voice to numerous Tamil films, including 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai,' 'Azhagi,' 'Paa,' and 'Anegan.' In 2002, she ventured into composing music for films like 'Mitr, My Friend,' 'Phir Milenge,' and 'Maayanadhi.'
