State Minister Sanath Nishantha and a police constable, who served as his security officer, tragically lost their lives in an accident on the Katunayake Expressway near Kandana early this morning.
A jeep, traveling from Katunayake towards Colombo, collided with a container vehicle heading in the same direction before crashing into the road's safety fence.

In this accident, State Minister Sanath Nishantha, the police constable (72542) Jayakodi (his security officer), and the jeep's driver sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Ragama Hospital.
Police said both the state minister and the police constable succumbed to their injuries upon admission, while the driver is currently receiving treatment at Ragama Hospital.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Kandana police.
