A 22-year-old Police Constable lost his life in a tragic accident at Akurugoda area in Thissamaharamaya on the Thissamaharamaya-Kataragama Main Road. The incident occurred when a bus collided with the motorcycle the Constable was riding.
According to the police, the accident reported as a bus traveling towards Kataragama attempted to overtake a tractor crossing the double line on the road, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle carrying the Police Constable. The injured Constable was rushed to Debarawewa Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased Constable, a resident of Welimada, was stationed at the Kataragama Police Station.
Preliminary investigations point to reckless driving on the part of the 39-year-old bus driver as the primary cause of the accident. The driver has been arrested and the Tissamaharama Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
