The Sub Inspector of Police (SI) involved in the alleged 'accidental' firearm discharge in Narammala, resulting in the death of a lorry driver, has been remanded. The Narammala Magistrate’s Court has ordered his remand until January 23.

The incident occurred on Thursday night (Jan.18) when the Sub Inspector in plain clothes 'accidentally' discharged his firearm during a vehicle inspection, leading to the death of a 41-year-old lorry driver from the Alawita area.

Police said that the driver failed to comply with the signal to stop at a checkpoint in Dampelessa, Narammala.

The SI and a Constable pursued and stopped the lorry for a spot inspection, during which the SI 'accidentally' discharged his firearm, causing critical injuries to the driver.

Despite being rushed to the Narammala District Hospital, the driver succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
