A Special Investigation Unit is probing the incident in Narammala where a 41-year-old man was killed when police accidentally opened fire on him.

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa revealed that, acting on the instructions of Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Thennakoon, a dedicated police team is already on-site, diligently investigating the actions of the involved officers.

Initial findings indicate that the Sub Inspector in question failed to follow proper procedures while on duty and was also in civilian attire during the unfortunate incident. 

The spokesman emphasized that the officer will not only face disciplinary action but also maximum legal consequences as part of a comprehensive investigation.
