In a significant leap towards modernization, Controller General of Immigration and Emigration I.S.H.J. Ilukpitiya announced that the Electronic Passport (e-passport) is slated to be launched in the country by the end of this year.
The comprehensive preparations for the introduction of the e-passport, including preliminary programs and procurement procedures, have already been successfully concluded, according to Ilukpitiya.
The advent of the e-passport is expected to elevate the global standing of the Sri Lankan passport, positioning it among the most well-recognized passports internationally.
