In a groundbreaking move, Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is set to roll out advanced facial and fingerprint recognition systems within the next two weeks, aimed at streamlining the identification process for passengers.
Controller General of Immigration and Emigration I.S.H.J. Ilukpitiya announced the imminent introduction, revealing that the facial recognition system has already been successfully integrated with the support of the police.
Under the new initiative, the fingerprints and images of all passengers passing through the airport will be systematically collected. Ilukpitiya anticipates that within the next month, the comprehensive system will enable swift and precise identification of travelers through both facial recognition and fingerprint scanning.
