Officials from the Bribery Commission took into custody a Sub Inspector of Police and a Police Constable at a residence in Narammala yesterday, accusing them of soliciting a bribe amounting to Rs. 10,000.

The arrest follows a complaint lodged by an individual in Narammala.

As per the Bribery Commission, the Sub Inspector and Constable are alleged to have demanded a bribe from an individual involved in the illicit liquor trade in Narammala. The bribe was reportedly sought in exchange for a commitment not to pursue legal action in the future concerning the sale of illicit liquor.

The detained suspects are to appear before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court.
