Colombo-Batticaloa train services return to normalcy
The Railway Department has announced the reinstatement of train services between Colombo and Batticaloa, including the 'Meenagaya' intercity express train, starting today (12).
The services had been temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions, particularly flooding that affected the railway track in Valaichchenai, Punai.
The 'Meenagaya' intercity express train had been canceled since Wednesday evening, causing inconvenience to commuters on the Colombo-Batticaloa route. The suspension was a precautionary measure as floodwaters posed challenges along certain sections of the railway track.
The Railway Department assures the public that normal services will resume promptly, facilitating the usual travel routine between Colombo and Batticaloa. The restoration of train services is welcome news for passengers who had been impacted by the disruption.
In addition, it's worth noting that the 'Pulasthi' express train had been restricted to Polonnaruwa during this period, and travelers relying on this route are encouraged to check for updates regarding the resumption of its full services.
