The Supreme Court to review a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filled by the notorious underworld figure, Nadun Chinthaka, also known as 'Harak Kata.' The petition challenges the detention order issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on July 11, 2024.
The three-member Supreme Court judge bench, led by Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, considered the petition filed by the notorious criminal currently held in CID custody. Deputy Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne, representing the Attorney General (AG), informed the court that the AG has not yet received the revised petition related to the case.
In response, the judge bench directed the petitioning party to provide a copy of the revised petition to the Deputy Solicitor General and scheduled a further consideration for July 11.
The petitioner alleges a violation of his fundamental rights by the CID, citing lack of fair evidence for his detention. The request includes an order to invalidate the detention order issued by the CID. Notable respondents named in the petition include the Director of the CID and a group associated with the case.
