A police constable was arrested for possessing ice drugs during a raid as part of Operation 'Yukthiya.'
The Ministry of Public Security reported that the constable was arrested by the Trincomalee Division Crime and Corruption Unit.
The police constable, attached to Kopai Police Station, was found in possession of 50 grams of ice drugs.
The concerned officer joined the Sri Lanka Police in September 2021, completed basic training, and worked at Kopai Police Station.
He was reported as Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) and was subsequently arrested by the police when he failed to report to work, citing illness.
Meanwhile, in the 24-hour operations that concluded at 12:30 am today (11) under the island-wide 'Yukthiya' operation, 897 suspects have been arrested.
The Ministry stated that further investigations are underway concerning the detention orders for 23 of the arrested suspects. Additionally, 19 drug addicts have been referred for rehabilitation.
During these raids, the police seized 295 grams and 500 milligrams of heroin, 685 grams and 930 milligrams of ice, and 665 narcotic pills."
