Sri Lanka Army deployed their troops at the government hospitals affected by the island wide strike of minor staff trade unions in the health sector to ensure the smooth run of the essential health services in the country.
The Army said the troops were deployed in response to the Ministry of Health request to Army Commander Lieutenant General Vimum Liyanage.
The troops deployed at Colombo National Hospital, Kandy General Hospital, Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Mahamodara Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, and the Government Hospitals in Matara, Balangoda, Eheliyagoda, Nawalapitiya, Badulla, Gampola, and Meerigama under the supervision of the Security Forces Commanders in West and Central.
At present, 500 troops deployed in these hospitals and Commander of the Army instructed the Security Force Commanders to stand by the additional troops for further deployment in case of an emergency while ensuring the smooth function of the health services free from inconveniences to the public.
