The first parliamentary sitting of 2024 commenced t 9:30 a.m. this morning (Jan.09), presided over by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
Accordingly, the Parliament is scheduled to meet from January 09 - 12, as per a decision made by the Committee on Parliamentary Business on 12 December 2023.
Meanwhile, several SJB MPs have come to Parliament attired in black today.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said they came wearing black today as a mark of protest against the skyrocketing cost of living.
However, the Party's parliamentary group seemed to be divided as some MPs including Thalatha Athukorala and Kabir Hashim came in their normal attire.
