The Piliyandala police have arrested a Police Inspector was was the driver of a three-wheeler, following allegations of sexual assault against a well-known actress.
The suspect is reportedly affiliated with the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption.
Police said that the actress sustained injuries to her head during the incident.
According to the police, the actress had booked a three-wheeler online from a reputable travel rental company based in Katubedda. She used the vehicle to travel from Katubedda to Nugegoda. However, while en route from Katubedde via Piliyandala towards Jaliyagoda, the driver halted the journey citing heavy rain as the reason.
The police said that the suspect police inspector, who was serving as the driver, moved to the back seat where the actress was seated and attempted to touch her chest area. In an attempt to escape, the actress sustained injuries to her knees after jumping off the moving three-wheeler. Subsequently, the suspect fled the scene in the same vehicle.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect initiated the journey with the actress in the Katubedda area and terminated the hire in the Papiliyana area of Kalubowila.
