In a recent operation, Police arrested two individuals involved in the production and circulation of counterfeit 1000 rupee notes, which they used to facilitate drug transactions.
The suspects, residents of Maligawatta and Dematagoda, were found in possession of four fake notes along with the printing equipment.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the counterfeit money had been exchanged through various means, amounting to nearly 50,000 rupees. The illicit funds were subsequently used to acquire illegal substances, particularly ice drugs.
The arrested individuals are scheduled to appear before the court tomorrow, where charges related to currency counterfeiting and drug offenses are expected to be filed. The Maligawatta police have initiated further inquiries into the incident, aiming to uncover additional details regarding the scope of the operation and any potential accomplices involved.
