The 15th anniversary of the assassination of The Sunday Leader founder Mr. Lasantha Wickrematunga, which falls on Monday, 8th January, will be marked with a service at his graveside at Borella.
Family, friends and journalists will gather at Borella cemetery on 8th January at 9 a.m. to mark the 15th anniversary and remember Lasantha wickramasinghe
He was assassinated on 8th January 2009, Mr.Wickramasinghe was one of Sri Lanka’s leading journalists. He was attacked as he drove to work and later died of his injuries.
The gathering at his graveside served not just as a memorial to a fallen journalist, but also as a reminder of the ongoing impact of his work and the ideals he stood for. Wickrematunge’s legacy continues to influence Sri Lankan journalism, inspiring a new generation to stand firm in the face of adversity and to strive for truth in their reporting.
