The Nawalapitiya Railway Control Room has reported the initial train derailment of the year, causing significant disruptions along the Badulla to Colombo route.

The incident occurred today near the Greatation and Nanuoya railway stations, leading to the temporary suspension of the Udarata Menike train, en route from Colombo to Badulla.

As a consequence of the derailment, the Udarata Menike train has come to a standstill in the vicinity of the Nanu Oya railway station. Commuters are advised to expect delays, as all other trains scheduled to operate on the upland route will experience interruptions until the situation is resolved.

Railway authorities are currently investigating the cause of the derailment, and efforts are underway to clear the tracks and restore normal operations.
