An Indian national inmate held at Boossa High Security Prison allegedly assaulted a prison official last night.
Prisons Spokesman Gamini Dissanayake said the inmate, identified as Aman Sheikh, was detained in a special cell at Boossa Prison when he attacked the compounding officer responsible for administering medicines at the prison hospital.
As a result of the assault, the officer fell to the ground and was subsequently admitted to Karapitiya Hospital.
In response to the incident, a jailer has been assigned to conduct an investigation, he said.
The spokesman said that legal action will be taken against the suspect in connection with the assault.
