State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe has disclosed that the "Aswesuma" payments for the month of December, totaling over Rs. 8 billion, have been successfully transferred to the respective banks.
This initiative, aimed at providing financial support to vulnerable families, marks a significant milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to address economic challenges.
The allocated sum of Rs. 8,793 million has been disbursed to 1,410,064 families, bringing the cumulative expenditure for "Aswesuma" payments from July to December 2023 to a substantial Rs. 51,967 million.
In a social media announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Minister Semasinghe shared that the disbursed funds have reached 303,199 extremely poor families, 606,496 poor families, 290,624 vulnerable families, and 209,745 transitional families. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to supporting various segments of the population during these challenging times.
The "Aswesuma" program, which focuses on aiding families facing economic hardships, continues to be a key component of the government's social welfare strategy, providing targeted financial assistance to those in need.
