Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has appointed Janaka Dharmakeerthi, the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, as the new Chairman of MILCO (Pvt) Ltd.

This decision follows the resignation of Renuka Perera, creating a vacancy in the Chairman position at the state-owned dairy producer and marketer. Minister Amaraweera, recognizing the need for swift action, entrusted Mr. Dharmakeerthi with the additional responsibility of leading MILCO while retaining his current role as the Agriculture Ministry’s Secretary.

The newly appointed Chairman officially assumed his duties at MILCO this afternoon, with Minister Amaraweera addressing the concerns that led to this change. In an issued appointment letter, the Minister emphasized that the decision was driven by the existing employee dissatisfaction within the company and its adverse impact on productivity.

Janaka Dharmakeerthi's dual role as the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries and the Chairman of MILCO reflects a concerted effort to streamline operations and foster positive changes within the state-owned dairy entity.
