Two individuals sustained injuries in a shooting incident near a fish shop located in front of a petrol station on New Galle Road in Weligama last night.
Police said two unidentified individuals arrived on a motorcycle, shot at two people, and fled the scene.
Following their admission to Walana Hospital, the two gunshot victims have been transferred to Matara Hospital for further treatment.
The injured parties, aged 42 and 52, are residents of Denipitiya and Welipitiya, respectively.
Police said that one of the wounded individuals is the owner of the fish shop where the incident occurred, while the other is an employee of the same establishment.
Weligama Police is investigating the incident to apprehend the suspects.
