The Court of Appeal has granted an order to extend the retirement age for all doctors to 63 years. The decision comes in response to a writ petition filed by 176 consultant specialist doctors, contesting the Cabinet of Ministers' decision dated 17-10-2022.

A two-judge bench, comprising Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Vikum Kaluarachchi, presided over the case and issued the order to raise the retirement age. The writ petition, submitted by the consultant specialist doctors, challenged the Cabinet's decision, prompting the Court of Appeal to intervene and address the matter.
