The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has ordered the release of former Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID), DIG Nalaka De Silva, from a case in which he was accused of plotting to assassinate former President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage issued the release order after considering the advice of the Attorney General, who recommended against proceeding with the case due to insufficient evidence.

The case originated from an investigation initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in response to a complaint filed by Namal Kumara, the operations director of the Anti-Corruptions Movement, in 2019.
