In a distressing case, a man from Sundarampura in Vavuniya has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment by Vavuniya High Court Judge M. Ilanchelian for the repeated rape and impregnation of his 14-year-old daughter. The accused, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim, was also ordered to pay Rs.600,000 as compensation to the survivor.
The prosecution revealed that the heinous acts occurred over a period of several years, starting in 2013 and continuing until the victim gave birth to a child fathered by the accused in 2015. Shockingly, the abuse escalated during the absence of the suspect's wife, who had gone abroad for employment.
DNA test results conclusively confirmed the paternity of the child, underscoring the gravity of the crime. The court's decision to impose a 12-year sentence and financial compensation reflects the severity of the offense and aims to provide some measure of justice for the victim.
