In a recent parliamentary session, Minister of Sports Harin Fernando expressed his hope that the suspension imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) would soon be lifted.
Minister Fernando revealed that he had engaged in a phone conversation with ICC officials to discuss the matter and that necessary steps would be taken within the week to have the suspension revoked.
During the session, Minister Fernando stated, "I can say with great confidence that I have discussed the matter with the ICC. In a phone conversation, they informed that they will lift our ban soon. We have to receive the letter from them. I think we will be able to get it this week. I will present all the charges against Shammi Silva to the ICC at that same time."
The minister also emphasized the importance of adhering to the anti-corruption law in the country, stating, "It is the ICC’s money. It is not the Sri Lankan government’s money. Therefore, we have a small problem. But there is a law that we have brought in this country. That is the anti-corruption law."
The suspension on Sri Lanka Cricket was imposed by the ICC due to the alleged government involvement.
