The Department of Meteorology has issued a 'Red' alert for naval and fishing communities in the southwest Bay of Bengal, cautioning them about the arrival of Cyclonic storm "MICHAUNG."

The storm, pronounced as "MIGJAUM," was located near latitude 13.2°N and longitude 81.2°E as of 0530hrs on December 4th, approximately 395 km northeast of Jaffna. 

According to the meteorological warning, the cyclonic system is predicted to intensify further and move northwestward, away from Sri Lanka towards the North Tamil Nadu coast of India. 

Subsequently, it will continue its northward trajectory and is projected to cross the South Andhra Pradesh coasts around December 5th, 2023. 

In light of this forecast, the Department of Meteorology advises naval and fishing communities to refrain from venturing into the sea areas extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai, as well as the marked regions, for the next 24 hours.
