In an unprecedented move, Kelaniya University has announced the immediate closure of all its faculties, excluding the medical faculty, until further notice.
The decision comes in the wake of a shocking incident involving the abduction and assault of a security officer within the university premises.
The vice-chancellor of Kelaniya University issued a special notice today, declaring the closure effective from 2 p.m. All students residing in university hostels have been instructed to vacate the premises by 5 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Strict prohibitions have been imposed, barring students from entering any part of the university, including the Dalugama campus and all internal and external hostels, until further notice.
