Maldives probes alleged infanticide by SL guest house employee
The Maldivian Police have initiated an investigation into an incident involving a Sri Lankan woman employed at a guest house in the archipelago nation, who is alleged to have committed infanticide, according to a spokesperson.
Maldivian Police spokesperson Yoonus Sobah said that the Sri Lankan woman has been arrested.
Reportedly, the woman secretly gave birth and abandoned the newborn inside a bag, which was later discovered at the landfill.
"Tragically, medical professionals who examined the baby determined that the infant was already deceased at the time of discovery. In light of these distressing circumstances, law enforcement authorities swiftly took action and apprehended the woman as she attempted to flee from the airport to Sri Lanka," the reports stated.
