Israel says it called off truce talks in Qatar

Israel has ordered its Mossad negotiating team in Doha to return to Israel due to what it called an “impasse”.First batch of aid trucks since the truce ended enters Gaza, the Palestinian Red Crescent said.

Israeli army says it has hit more than 400 targets overnight, including in the southern Khan Younis area where tens of thousands of civilians evacuated to over the past month.

Israel renews its bombardment of Gaza, hitting areas across the enclave after the end of a week-long truce.

At least 15,207 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7. In Israel, the official death toll stands at about 1,200.

Palestinian human rights groups have refused to meet ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan, accusing him of favouring Israeli accusations of rights abuses over longstanding Palestinian allegations.

Khan has been visiting Israel and the occupied West Bank after a request by a group representing families of victims of the October 7 Hamas attacks. Palestinian activists said they refused to see him because of their objections to what they see as unequal treatment of Israeli and Palestinian cases.

“As Palestinian human rights organisations, we decided not to meet him,” said Ammar al-Dwaik, director general of the Independent Commission for Human Rights. “I think the way this visit has been handled shows that Mr Khan is not handling his work in an independent and professional manner.”

Khan met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah during his visit. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa said Abbas urged Karim to investigate Israeli operations in Gaza as well as the occupied West Bank.

Scotland Yard has expanded its investigation into war crimes to also include Palestine as well as Israel, the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians says.

The legal rights group said the investigation covers alleged war crimes in the region since 2014 as mandated for investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“The investigation is being carried out by the War Crimes Team who are part of Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command,” the centre said.
