The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has developed in to a depression. It is likely to intensify into a deep depression by 02 December 2023 and it will further develop in to a cyclonic storm by 03 December 2023. This system is likely to move west-northwestwards closer to northern coast of Sri Lanka towards North Tamil Nadu coast.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, North-central, Eastern and North-western provinces and heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other provinces of the island after 01.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Showers may occur in Southern province during the morning too.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has developed in to a depression. It is likely to intensify into a deep depression by 02 December 2023 and it will further develop in to a cyclonic storm by 03 December 2023. This system is likely to move west-northwestwards closer to northern coast of Sri Lanka towards North Tamil Nadu coast.

It is dangerous to engage in activities in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.Therefore, Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the above sea areas until further notice.

Naval and fishing communities are engaged in activities in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara are request to be vigilant.

Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.  

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Pottuvil and Hambantota. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island particularly during the evening or night.
Winds:

Winds will be north-easterly or north-westerly and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed may increase up to (60-70) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa will be very rough. The other sea areas around the Island may be fairly rough at times.
