The United States has expressed satisfaction over the preliminary accord struck between Sri Lanka and the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) concerning specific financial terms aimed at restructuring the island nation's debt in alignment with the guidelines outlined in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Julie Chung, the US Ambassador in Colombo, commended the agreement, asserting that it lays the foundation for a sustainable route to economic stability for Sri Lanka.

Chung underscored the significance of the pact on debt restructuring and the implementation of sound economic policies, emphasizing that these elements are pivotal for the timely disbursement of the next installment of the IMF's bailout package. She highlighted that this financial infusion is essential for sustaining economic stabilization, fostering recovery, and enhancing public services to the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka.

The ambassador reiterated the United States' commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in achieving a resilient and sustainable recovery.
