Pastor Jerome Fernando arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today following a court order issued last week that directed authorities not to arrest him in connection with a controversial Sunday sermon.
Fernando, who had been under CID investigation for contentious remarks against Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism, left the country on May 15 this year.
The Court of Appeal's recent order, issued in response to a writ petition filed by Pastor Jerome, prohibits his arrest at the airport or anywhere else. Additionally, the court instructed the Pastor to provide a statement to the CID within 48 hours of his arrival in the country.
Arriving at Katunayake Airport early this morning from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight, Pastor Fernando exited the airport through the "Gold Route."
