Showery weather condition is expected to enhance over the island for the next few days starting from today (29), due to an atmospheric disturbance over Southeast Bay of Bengal Sea area, Department of Meteorology said.

As such, heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Kalutara, district.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area has developed over south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around 30th November 2023 and it will further develop in to a cyclonic storm

Hence, naval and fishing communities are in the deep Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea areas are request to be vigilant in this regard. Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
