Lanka Sathosa has announced a plan to lower the prices of nearly 400 items, including essential food items, in order to provide relief to consumers during the upcoming festive season.

The Trade, Commerce, and Food Security Minister, Nalin Fernando, shared this news during a recent meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Food Security held in Parliament. Minister Fernando highlighted that efforts have been made to import a sufficient quantity of rice, specifically Keeri Samba rice, to meet the demand during the festive season.

In addition, the Ministry has taken steps to address the artificial shortage of rice caused by certain paddy mill owners who have been hoarding their stocks instead of releasing them to the market
