Former Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Saliya Pieris PC has refuted President Ranil Wickremesinghe's claims in Parliament that he harbored ambitions of becoming Prime Minister before May 9, 2022.
Pieris, in a Facebook post, dismissed the assertions, stating that the President falsely implicated him while enjoying parliamentary immunity, preventing a direct response.
Pieris emphasized his commitment to prioritizing the country's needs over personal ambitions and disapproved of sacrificing principles for personal gain.
He clarified that the BASL's proposals in May 2022 were collective decisions made by the Executive Committee and approved by the Bar Council. According to Pieris, these proposals aimed to address Sri Lanka's political and governance crisis, focusing on the country's interests and the welfare of its people.
