The Ministry of Defense has initiated the removal of two individuals from the blacklist due to their alleged involvement in supporting terrorism and related activities.
General Kamal Gunaratne, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, issued an extraordinary gazette notification, effective as of Monday (23), to officially lift the blacklisting of these individuals.
The individuals being removed from the blacklist include Niklapillai Antony Emil Lakshmi Kanthan, also known as Ramesh, residing in Maradawadi Mawatha, Weppamkulam, Vavuniya, and Murugesu Sri Sanmugarajah, living on Kachcheriya Road, Nallur, Jaffna.
Ramesh, who had been the subject of an Interpol Red notice since July 27, 2010, for his alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities, had been blacklisted since 2014.
The Ministry clarified that the list of designated individuals, groups, and entities, as published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1854/41 on March 21, 2014, has been periodically amended and updated.
