A passenger from Indonesia was apprehended by the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake yesterday.
The woman, who had recently arrived from Doha, was caught attempting to smuggle nearly five kilograms of cocaine into the country, as reported by Sri Lanka Customs.
The 42-year-old female passenger had traveled to Sri Lanka from Ethiopia via Doha and had concealed 4.59 kilograms of cocaine within books in her luggage.
Sri Lanka Customs estimates the street value of this narcotics haul to be over Rs. 230 million. Both the illicit consignment and the woman have been transferred to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
