A couple and their four-month-old baby were injured and subsequently admitted to Balapitiya Hospital after an unidentified assailant opened fire on them in Galvehera, Ahungalla.
The victims were riding on a motorcycle when the incident took place.
The injured man is 32 years old, and the woman is 27 years old. They both reside in Galvehera, Ahungalla.
Initial investigations have uncovered that the couple was returning home from their place of business when an individual concealed in a field in the Galvehera area fired upon them.
Police said the attacker used a T56 type firearm for the shooting.
The injured man and the child have been transferred to Karapitiya Hospital for further medical treatment.
Ahungalla police are currently engaged in further investigative efforts to apprehend the perpetrator.
