In a move to address misconduct within the police force, the Sri Lanka Police has launched a dedicated hotline, '118', for members of the public to lodge complaints against police personnel.

The introduction of this hotline aims to provide an accessible platform for citizens to report instances of misconduct by police officers. The Police Media Division has assured that individuals can choose to provide information anonymously if they wish, and the confidentiality of such complaints will be strictly safeguarded.

Initially introduced by the Ministry of Public Security, the '118' hotline served as a channel for the public to report various crimes. However, its scope has now expanded to include complaints specifically against police personnel.

The '118' hotline operates 24 hours a day, ensuring that complaints can be lodged at any time. The authorities have urged the public to utilize this facility responsibly and contribute to the ongoing efforts to create a safer and more accountable police force.

Citizens are encouraged to report any instances of misconduct or breaches of trust by calling the '118' hotline and playing an active role in shaping a more responsible and trustworthy police service.
