A special search operation conducted by the Navy at Gurunagar Jetty, Jaffna resulted in the discovery of over 01kg of TNT high explosives and a 01ft 03-inch safety fuse.
The recovery was made by SLNS Welusumana of the Northern Naval Command during a search in the vicinity of Gurunagar Jetty. Naval personnel found a suspicious parcel concealed in shrubs, containing 01kg and 950g of TNT high explosives and a 03ft 04-inch safety fuse. These items have been taken into naval custody.
It is suspected that these explosive materials were concealed with the intention of using them for illegal fishing activities in the future. The explosives are currently in naval custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further legal action.
