The Supreme Court has ruled that the decision by the Ape Janabala Party (AJP) to expel Ven. Athuraliye Rathana from party membership is not legally valid.
Following this judgment, Ven. Rathana Thera is now free to function as a Member of Parliament despite his expulsion from the party.
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, consisting of Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, Murdu Fernando, and Janak de Silva, concluded that the expulsion decision made by the Disciplinary Committee of 'Ape Janabala Pakshaya' is inherently illegal.
