Due to the heavy rains falling in the upper Mahaweli catchment area the authorities has taken steps to open 07 sluice gates at the Polgolla water reservior yesterday.
Due to this, a water capacity of 7000 cubic feet per second is released into the Lower Victoria Reservoir.
The office also informs the public that people using the Mahaweli river in the lower area should be careful as the gates will be opened as the water levels in the reservoir rise.
