The distribution of 21,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer required for the upcoming Maha season will commence tomorrow (09), according to Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

The Minister has instructed government-owned fertilizer companies, namely Lanka Fertilizer Company and Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company, to ensure the immediate distribution of the necessary urea fertilizer.

Chairman of Commercial Fertilizer Company and Ceylon Fertilizer Company, Dr. Jagath Perera, has announced that the urea fertilizer will be available for purchase at Agrarian Service Centers, with a 50 kg bag priced at 9000 rupees.

Both government-owned fertilizer companies and the private sector have collaborated to ensure a sufficient supply of fertilizers without any shortages during the Maha season.

Moreover, the Minister has emphasized the importance of prioritizing the supply of fertilizers, including urea, for paddy cultivation and other crops, such as vegetables.

Furthermore, the government has taken steps to assist farmers by providing 15,000 rupees per hectare to support the purchase of chemical or organic fertilizers, depending on the farmers' preferences.
