Two housemaids from Malambada and Walgama were discovered brutally murdered in a residence in Matara, police said.

The unsettling discovery unfolded when the homeowner left the house on a Saturday morning and returned in the evening, only to find that the two housemaids were nowhere to be found. The homeowner's calls to their names went unanswered.

Upon closer investigation, it was revealed that the back door of the house had been left open, which raised concerns among neighbors. They promptly alerted the police about the absence of the maids from the residence.

As the police delved into their inquiry, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the two women, aged 67 and 70, in the bathroom and toilet areas designated for the maids' use.

Further investigation also uncovered the theft of several valuable items, including 12 non-gold bangles, 02 necklaces, 01 golden spoon, and 39 foreign coins, which had been stored in a room cupboard.

The police have arrested a 25-year-old suspect residing in Tudawa, Matara, believed to be connected to the horrific incident. Additionally, the police have taken custody of the stolen property found in the possession of the suspect.
