Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne visited the accident site in Colombo yesterday to inspect the tragedy in which a tree collapsed on a moving bus travelling from Colombo to Deniyaya.
Gen. Gunaratne directed the tri-force relieving teams, top police officers and fire relief teams to expedite the procedures to be performed in response to the accident.

Mean while Minister of State for Defense Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon has instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate action regarding the trees that are at risk of falling on the sides of the highways.
He has coordinated with officials of the Environment Authority, Road Development Authority and relevant local authorities to conduct an immediate study of the large trees that are at risk of falling on the sides of the roads due to the prevailing rainy weather and to remove everything that may pose a threat to the public. The officials of the Disaster Management Center and the NBRO were instructed to take necessary measures.
Regarding the incident of a tree falling on a bus in Kollupitiya yesterday morning, the Minister of State has given this instruction to the officials as a measure to prevent the disaster
