The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has launched an investigation prompted by information provided by a prison inmate regarding a potential bomb threat.

According to the police, a detainee on a bus transporting inmates from Pallekele Dumbara prison to Mahara prison left a handwritten letter for the officers stationed at the Thannakumbura Police Road Block. In the letter, the inmate claimed to possess information about a potential terrorist attack.

Within the note, the inmate mentioned that another prisoner currently incarcerated had discussed plans for such an attack.

Upon initial assessment of the credibility of this information, in conjunction with intelligence data, the police have determined that it lacks substantial validity.

However, the Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division has taken the proactive step of obtaining a court order to record statements from the inmates within the prison, as reported by the police.
